Celebrating over 20 Years of Excellence in High School Hockey

Barrington Broncos Varsity

GAME RECAPS

October 10 – 17, 2007
Broncos, Besieged by Illness and Injuries, Continue to Compete

Over the last two weeks, the Barrington Broncos Hockey Club has looked like a MASH Unit.  Injuries to Matt Spica (ankle) Danny Condon (shoulder), Billy Schmitz (shoulder), Brad

Kopp (collar bone), and Kevin Kassulat (concussion).  In addition, Josh Eastham and Coach Hudson were sidelined with the flu.

Despite the adversity, Barrington posted wins over the Barrington Redwings Midget Major Team,  4 to 1 and an all star hockey team from Milwaukee, 4 to 2.  The Broncos suffered losses to Stevenson,  2 to 0 and New Trier Green, 6 to 1 and scrambled to tie Maine 2 to 2.

Barrington's overall record, as of October 19th, is 10-6-3.  All six losses have been at the hands of teams ranked in the state's top five.  Barrington is currently ranked number nine in the state.

With about one third of the season completed, Barrington, despite not having a game with a healthy line-up, is competing admirably and is poised to have a very successful season.

October 3, 2007 – Broncos 5  Jacobs 0. The Broncos opened up the Metro Central regular season with a bang, soundly beating Jacobs 5-0. It was a balanced team effort with all three lines dominating their opponent which featured some hot goal tending in a game where the action on the ice was not fully reflected in the score.

October 4-8 – New Trier Tournament. The Broncos are beginning to gel showing heightened levels of intensity while dominating Warren, New Trier Blue and New Trier White for a combined score of 19-2. The Broncos went down early in the championship 3-0 against a very solid St. Rita team but came back to tie things up with a few minutes to go in the third. Unfortunately, a late goal with :21 left for St. Rita gave them their second one-goal victory over the Broncos in as many games. Clearly the Broncos have established themselves as one of the top teams in Illinois HS Hockey this year. They will have to step up and win some of the big games in HIT in order to reach their potential. HIT opens next week against the consensus #1 team NTG.

Bartlett Tourney Recap:

The Broncos came out strong and dominated the Lincolnway East team beating them easily 9 to 1. In the second game against Providence, the Broncos let up two early goals while unleashing a barrage of shots on the Providence goaltender. While the Broncos were able to claw there way back to a tie, the final score was a definite disappointment. In the third game, the Broncos made a couple of early mistakes and a very skilled New Trier Green team capitalized on both of them. The team showed a lot of character in the second and third periods but NTG capitalized on two more power plays to wrap the game up. After two tournaments, the Broncos have shown that they can skate with anyone. The regular season kicks off on October 3, against Jacobs at BIA at 9:05.

September 16, 2007 – “Great 8” Tournament – The Broncos opened the season with a bang thumping Fenwick in the opening game of Great 8 Tournament 7-3. The game was plagued with a parade of penalties that left the Broncos 2 men down for most of the the third period, but they kept their cool and held off the Fenwick attackers. The second game was a tie with a solid Mt. Carmel team 1-1. And the third game was a convincing 6-2 win over Naperville North. After less than 6 hours sleep, the boys took on St. Rita but came up one goal short in a 6-5 loss. St. Rita was the eventual winner of the tournament and was a well coached, experienced team. All in, there was nothing that the Broncos could not handle and a lot of reasons to be optimistic as a result. Next weekend is the Bartlett Tournament where the Broncos will get their first look at NTG, always a top ranked team in Illinois Hockey.
